In Colombia, strategies for the energy transition are proposed that emphasize the use of renewable energy sources and sustainability. In this framework, there are thermal districts, centralized thermal energy generation systems (mainly cold) that allow the use of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (FERNC) in urban centers. The Thermal District, the Babilla del Malecón, in the city of Barranquilla, is a proposed project of eight independent cold factories energized with solar energy and biomass, each composed of a cold water storage tank that feeds individual fan coil equipment, which cools a set of homes and areas of tertiary occupation. Chronologically, for the design of this term district, the following aspects were considered: the demand for energy by users; the selection of chiller type central cooling equipment (absorption and vapor compression) a power generation turbine; cooling towers and energy storage tanks for service stability; finally, the pumping system was dimensioned within the plant to the entrance of the buildings.
